A WARM thank you has gone out to runners who braved the cold to support a fundraising event in Dorchester.

The Dorchester and District Lions Club’s annual fun run last weekend raised more than £4,000 with the vast majority of that going to local good causes.

Almost 250 people set off from the Dorchester Middle School with runners able to chose from a one mile, two mile or 10km timed route.

Andy Rose from the Dorchester Lions said: “We would like to thank all those who took part in the Dorchester Lions fun run at the weekend – and also helpers from other groups and organisations who helped to make the event such a success on the day.

“The Lions are always pleased to organise this important annual community event but we recognise that its continued success is dependent on the support and help from many other groups, organisations and individuals. It takes over 50 personnel and three months to plan and stage the run.”

The Lions are now asking all those who took part to make sure their efforts count by returning their sponsorship money in a sealed envelope to the gift counter at Goulds household store in South Street, Dorchester, as soon as possible.

Anyone who returns their sponsorship money by the end of April and has raised more than £50 will be automatically entered into a prize draw, which will give them a chance to raise further funds for their chosen cause.

This year the Lions have chosen to support young people in the local community as their main beneficiary and are keen to hear from any groups or organisations that support youngsters.
