City are the team everyone wants to beat because of their Capital One Cup fame.

That’s according to Gary Jones, who believes the Wembley-bound Bantams are being headhunted by the rest of League Two.

City’s astonishing progress to the cup final has put the basement division on the football map. They have also become the scalp that opponents are desperate to take.

Skipper Jones said: “What we’ve achieved as a club is nothing short of amazing. Without a shadow of a doubt, it’s made us a target for other teams.

“Even before that we are a big team in this league with the size of our fanbase and Valley Parade. Being in the Capital One Cup final and selling out our allocation of tickets has probably highlighted that even more.

“Teams look at us and raise their game. It makes every week like a cup final.

“It’s up to us to be prepared for every game we play. Do that and we won’t be far short.”

Speaking in last week’s programme, Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley praised the Bantams for doing the fourth tier proud.

He said: “Bradford’s feat has brought great credit to the Football League and League Two in particular. I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping they’ve got one more giant-killing act in them and they can bring the cup back to West Yorkshire.”

Jones admitted that City let the Cod Army off the hook in that 2-2 draw. But he was impressed by the battling qualities on display – and they will be needed against Gillingham this afternoon.

The midfielder said: “To come back like we did after going 1-0 down early on shows the character that we’ve got. You need that if you’re going to be successful this season.

“Every point away from home is decent but it’ll be even better if we can follow it up with a win against a team who are right up there.

“Having that Tenerife break recently has revitalised us, so hopefully we can start to kick on.”

The emergency loan window reopened yesterday and, while he is not desperate to add to the squad, Phil Parkinson remains on the look-out for another addition.

City missed out on Rochdale’s Jason Kennedy ten days ago and may still feel they are a midfielder down after Ritchie Jones was paid up. Parkinson revealed that another target also bit the dust.

The Bantams boss said: “Of course we’d like another body in the building and if the right person comes available, we’ll try and get them.

“We tried to do a couple of things. There was one particular player who’d come up for talks and we’d done a deal with the club and with him on a free transfer.

“But then he got back into the Championship team and has stayed in ever since. So they decided they didn’t want to do the deal.”
