Matt Duke wants to convince City that he is their best goalkeeper but admits: I haven’t done it yet.

The experienced stopper has been in solid form this season to win over the Valley Parade doubters after a tough first year at the club.

Duke, one of Phil Parkinson’s first signings, was sent on loan to Northampton last term and looked to be heading out permanently.

But he has bounced back to edge out Jon McLaughlin as City’s first choice on the back of several strong performances.

Duke, who also combines his playing with the role of goalkeeping coach, was expected to return to the net at Wycombe this afternoon.

City will be backed by a massive travelling support – and Duke hopes to show them again that he is the man for the job.

He said: “I came back in the summer to prove myself and I feel I’ve got a point to prove to the fans. All you can do is your best.

“Last season wasn’t great on a playing level. I went to Northampton because I wanted to play football, it has never been about leaving Bradford.

“But I feel I’m doing well at the moment and that’s what I’m capable of. I still don’t believe I’ve proved it yet but I have to keep performing week in, week out.”

McLaughlin stepped in for the FA Cup loss at Brentford – one of nine changes Phil Parkinson made to rest bodies. Duke still made the trip as the back-up keeper on the bench.

He said: “Jon and I get on well together and that support helps us. I support him when he is in the team and vice versa.

“It’s important because the bigger picture is the club, not me or Jonny playing in goal.

“You have to do your best whether you’re playing or on the bench. Either way you have to prepare yourself right.

“Being the goalkeeping coach as well, I have to take my playing head off and make sure he is ready to play.”
