Greedy Alan Connell cannot get enough Premier League glamour ties.

Valley Parade is on countdown for Arsenal’s visit in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals in 11 days – City’s biggest game in over a decade.

But Connell has his sights on snaring another fancy name in the FA Cup by beating Brentford tonight.

Victory over one of his old clubs would put the Bantams into Sunday’s third-round draw – and the chance of drawing another potential giant.

Connell said: “It’s a nice little incentive for us. The third round is a massive event in this country, certainly for clubs in the bottom two divisions.

“That’s when you can potentially get your glamour ties and you can never have enough of them.

“Everyone’s buzzing about Arsenal but we don’t want to settle for just having one big cup tie coming up.

“Why not go for two or three?

“Other clubs seem to draw big teams all the time so why not us.

“Bradford have had their difficult times over the past few years but we feel that things are on the up. We want to keep the feelgood factor going in the league and the cups.”

The striker spent the 2007-2008 season with Brentford and scored 12 goals from 47 appearances, ten of them coming from February onwards. He enjoyed his time with the unfashionable West London club.

“I had a decent time there and I loved playing at Griffin Park. It was a real old-school ground and the fans are very vocal as well.

“Terry Butcher signed me from Hereford and then Andy Scott took over halfway through the season when he left. The second half of that year, in particular, went really well for me.

“It was difficult to leave that summer but I had the chance to return to Bournemouth, where I’d loved my time.

“It was a weird one because I’d done well for the manager and he’d said at the end of the season that he’d still wanted me to stay. But there were no guarantees what would happen.

“So I had to make a judgement call and felt that returning to Bournemouth was the right thing to do. To be fair, it turned out well but it was still hard to leave a good club as well.”

Uwe Rosler has got the current Bees buzzing and Saturday’s win over Sheffield United underlined their promotion intentions. But given City’s cup form, Connell is not fazed by more higher-ranked visitors.

He said: “Brentford are going well and will be looking to get in the play-offs this year. It will be a really tough test for us.

“But again we should fear nobody, especially at home. The cups have been good to us this season so we want to kick on now.

“They’ll have seen our cup record and won’t be looking forward to coming here either.

“We’ve got to be that sort of team where the opposition will genuinely fear going to Valley Parade.

“To a certain extent we’ve done that but to keep that reputation, we’ve got to win games.

“It would be great if we can do that tonight and get ourselves into that hat for the third round.”
