Bradford City bombshell as Luke Oliver ruled out for rest of the season

Luke Oliver Luke Oliver

Luke Oliver’s season is over after he underwent an operation this morning.

City’s reigning player of the year ruptured his left Achilles tendon in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Burton. The club’s initial worries over the extent of the damage were confirmed and he went under the knife today.

Phil Parkinson predicted Oliver will be out of action for “six to nine months”, which rules him out of kicking another ball in the current campaign.

Parkinson, who is scouring for a replacement centre half on a long-term loan, expects to know more about Andrew Davies after further tests. He misses the Capital One Cup tie at Wigan with a twisted knee and will undergo a scan later today.

Why has he undergone a knee operation when he has injured his achilles?

Let' hope it isn't a premonition of Davies' injury.

Also wish Ollie a speedy recovery but sounds awful if his AT has snapped.

FFS
The dangers of having a small squad are becoming obvious.

And he was forming a decent partnership with Davies, and if theres one thing we've lacked at this level (and before that) has been successful pairings on the field

Very bad news. He has been great for us these last few seasons, a real blow.

This is a huge blow.

Good luck to the lad for a complete recovery.

Clearly the manager will need to act to compensate for this loss, which I'm sure he will do quickly bearing in mind the Davies situation.

This is real bad luck for City and how we deal with it will surely define our season.

C'mon everyody let's rise to the challenge!

Good luck Luke, hopefully you'll make a full recovery and be back in the Claret and Amber next season with BCFC in the First Division. You'll be missed, a top class defender with a tonne of bottle.

Isn't Steve Williams still on the books?

He should be near to coming back after his injury.

Mick ? Cleckheaton...
They operated on his knee because somebody in a position of culpability in the private health service was extremely negligent and.... following that, a junior medical professional said - let's scan his ankle and if that doesn't enlighten us we'll keep him in
hospikal till his achilles gets better.

Bad Luck Luke. I hope the op went well and that you are back in Claret & Amber soon.

Tom Clarke isn't getting a game at TB,s? Wonder if he fancies popping back to VP for the season.

By all accounts, Davies' injury doesn't sound too serious, which means McArdle moves into his favoured centre roll and Darby, who's a better full back anyway, slots in at RB.

Real shame for Luke as he's been solid and consistent for 15 months now and had cemented his spot in the team on merit.

However, I think AD & RM make a better DC pairing so as far as the team goes, I believe it's improved, though I wish him a speedy recovery as he's a real asset to the club.

Sad news for City but particularly for Luke, who had lately distinguished himself with many excellent performances, after a 'difficult' first season at the club.

The hope is of course, he makes a complete recovery, but I'm unaware of whether this is guaranteed to be the case (with this injury), even after surgery.

For City, it leaves a big 'hole' and now 'PP' must consider a permanent replacement, come January if the 'replacement strategies' don't measure up. Before that, a 'loanee' may need to arrive.

How will it affect Luke's career in football?
How will this affect City's season?

We can only 'wait and see.'

Good luck to 'LO'-take it 'carefully'!

Mick, think you're confused. Ollie has gone under the hammer for his Achilles but it's AD who's got the dodgy knee!

Michael Clayton says...

At half-time (Northampton) he stayed out on the pitch to stop the AT from seizing up. It would be worse to know that the extent of the injury could have been avoided by resting him for a few weeks. Anyway, here's wishing for a full recovery.
