Ricketts ready for Beckham

By Simon Parker »

Life in Los Angeles is treating Donovan Ricketts well.

The former City favourite was named the Major League Soccer player of the week for his outstanding debut for the Galaxy.

The US press were raving about the big Jamaican’s performance in a 0-0 draw with local rivals Chivas.

Ricketts pulled off five fine saves as Galaxy held on for a point, despite finishing the game with only nine players.

The Americans sure love their stats, so I can tell you that the Don became the third keeper in Galaxy history to earn a debut “shut-out” – and only the 37th stopper since the league was formed to be named top man of the week.

David Beckham, be warned. Free-kicks in training might not be so easy next time!
