Picture imperfect

By Simon Parker »

A few weeks ago I penned a piece singing the praises of Setanta.

Well, forget I said anything.

Apparently Wayne Rooney’s second goal against Belarus was a cracker. Unfortunately I wouldn’t know.

By that point, our TV screen had morphed into a psychedelic Andy Warhol painting. Occasionally a familiar face would flash up; part of a face anyway.

Oh look, there’s Steven Gerrard’s left eyebrow; Frank Lampard’s knee; some strange martians marching on Earth. You get the picture.

Which is more than I did.

While every other channel worked picture perfect, the coverage from Minsk was a combination of jumbled-up pixels. It was like those old children’s books where you flicked the pages to make the little stick men in the corner appear to move.

And then the line went down altogether… Bring back ITV. All is forgiven.
