Ross the centre of attention again

By Simon Parker »

I’ve been told that one of the contestants on the quiz that pads out the TV lottery draw last week happened to be a Joe Ross from London.

City fans will always recall Ross as the referee who sent off Dean Windass after the final whistle at Luton a few years back, allegedly after taunting him about the shoddy state of his team’s defending and waving four fingers to indicate the number of goals they had let in.

He also put Colin Todd on an FA charge for good measure and both ended up being hauled before a disciplinary committee and fined.

Ross did not have to answer anything about his conduct but at the end of the season he had been relegated to running the line – and within a year was off the league list altogether.

Now, it seems, he has turned his attention to TV quiz programmes.

I would love to report how he fared but unfortunately I missed it.

So I’m also unable to confirm the rumour that he later buttonholed the presenter and told him to “get his questions in order” next time.
