Avenue’s plans for a new home certainly don’t lack for ambition.
Money-man Bob Blackburn, pictured, has already stated his desire to restore the club to Football League glory in the next five years.
And now he has announced his dream for a 20,000
capacity stadium. Judging by Monday’s attendance of 288 against Clitheroe, they still have a way to go.
The 36-acre site of this ground at Phoenix Park in Thornbury seems as good a venue as any for this grandiose transformation that the chief executive has envisaged.
But one thing amuses me. Some Avenue-ites have been quick to have a pop at the T&A in the past for giving so much coverage to Farsley Celtic; in their accusing words, a “Leeds-based”
club.
And yet I see, because the proposed ground is the “other” side of the
roundabout, Avenue will be submitting their building plans before Leeds, and not Bradford, councillors.
