Bring back the home internationals for our Euro flops

One financial expert reckons England’s failure to make it to Euro 2008 will cost the national economy a staggering £1.25 billion.
Football is no longer just a game; it’s a full-blown industry with the spin-offs from replica shirts, supermarket beer promotions – you name it, they sponsor it.
I can’t see a run on Bavarian special brew just to celebrate those lovely Germans going all the way. Mind you, it might be strong enough to blow away any lingering thoughts of what might have been.
So how do we try to recoup this vat of lost dosh?
How’s about reforming the home internationals just for a one-off summer bash.
Scotland aren’t going to beat Italy, which will mean that all the British sides will be stuck at home twiddling their thumbs while the rest of Europe parties.
The perfect opportunity, therefore, for the four nations to set up their own league for a week or two.
Call it the Western European Losers’ Plate, if you like, but it’s surely better than nowt. And think of the merchandise sales…
