T&A reporter Ben Barnett takes a sideways look at Euro 2008.
I’ve never been one for athletics – even as a proud former egg-and-spoon race winner at primary school, the allure of watching the Olympics isn’t all that strong for me. But the Games are all over the newspapers so it’s impossible not to read about it.
Everyone is quite rightly raving about Andrei Arshavin at the moment. In two appearances he’s managed to grab the attention of clubs in England and Spain. It is down to him that the Russians face Spain in the semi-finals tonight.
One thing's for sure, the remainder of Euro 2008 will be a little less entertaining without Slaven Bilic.
Day 13 and I’m settled into a predictable routine. Get in, get some grub on, flick on Hollyoaks, switch to E4 for more Hollyoaks – there’s nothing wrong with a dashing of trashy TV – then it’s match time.
Racy Russia outclassed stodgy Sweden to enter the Land of the Giants in the quarterfinals of Euro 2008 last night and set up a knockout clash coach Guus Hiddink’s countrymen, Holland.
Romania have a great chance to progress as runners up of Group C tonight, rendering the top-billed travails of France and Italy academic.
I had my first vindaloo last night and it was an admirable performance.
It’s probably a case of watching too many old episodes of Top Gear on Dave TV to ease me into relaxation after returning home from late shifts at work, but I’ve begun to think of Euro 2008 as a motor race.
Spain’s rout of Russia and the Swedes functional win over holders Greece completed the first round of games tonight.
And so the Grim Reaper cometh. I’m not sure why everyone insists on calling Group C the Group of Death. I mean it’s a bit extreme.
