Carrying the torch for the end of term
1:55pm Friday 10th August 2012 in Sport
End-of-term activities at Holy Family Catholic School in Keighley featured a day of Olympics-themed events.
The occasion was organised in conjunction with development agency CAFOD.
A spokesman for Holy Family said: “Every curriculum area contributed activities to the day and there were guest speakers from the Red Cross and from drug awareness units.
“The keynote speaker for the day was Elizabeth Wright, a paralympian, who enthralled the students as she spoke with passion about her experiences.
“The reflection at the end of the day centred on Olympic themes. Pupils’ intentions were recorded on paper ‘flames’, which were gathered into torch-like receptacles as members of the school considered the Olympic values’ relation to peace and poverty.
“Students also had the opportunity to see one of the real Olympic torches. This was brought in by Lynn Williams.”
