East Bierley residents have helped Birkenshaw Junior Rugby League Club members in a clean up of the playing fields that they use for home matches.

About 30 bin bags were filled, including discarded bottles, many of which were broken, plus litter that has been blown into hedgerows. Bradford Council have agreed to collect the bin bags.

Birkenshaw JRLC chairman Andy Redmond said: "There was a lot of broken glass around, and when Birkenshaw teams are at home, families are watching and small children play in and around the periphery of the pitch and it was suggested to me by local residents to have a day clearing up some rubbish.

"Boys from our under-sevens, under-eights and under-tens agreed to help out, along with their families, and residents. It turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon."

Birkenshaw juniors train at the playing fields every Thursday (6-7pm), and new faces are welcome.
