A pupil from Fulneck School, Pudsey, has been selected to train with the England Rugby Developing Player Programme (ERDPP), following highly-competitive trials.

George Kelly, 13, was one of the few players picked from the 150 attending the trials, which were designed by Leeds Carnegie executive chairman Sir Ian McGeechan and run by the club.

As part of the programme, George will attend regular training camps with other highly-skilled players from around the region, receiving professional advice and coaching to further improve his game.

Dave Needham, Fulneck School’s head of sport, said: “We are very proud of George. His selection is a reflection of his hard work throughout this season and he fully deserves this exciting opportunity.

“The programme is aimed at spotting talent at an early age and nurturing potential with a view to finding national and international stars of the future.”

He added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for those selected to develop their game and improve their skills and fitness with the best young players in the region.

“It will compliment and build on the positive messages and encouragement received through the school’s rugby coaching team, and the lessons George learns will not only benefit his game, but also that of his team as he passes on his new knowledge.”
