Bradford Grammar School reach last 16 of Daily Mail Under-15 Cup

Bradford Grammar School are through to the last 16 of the Daily Mail Schools' RBS Under-15s Cup.

A total of 550 schools entered but BGS added to their victories over Barnard Castle and Ashville College with a notable triumph at RGS Newcastle, who had won their previous ten matches.

Denied the chance to play on the first-team pitch after it failed a late inspection, the match went ahead at nearby Mooracres, and BGS had first use of the slope.

Captain James Pinder (Heaton) put the visitors ahead with a penalty, and he also converted a try by winger George Kear (East Morton).

RGS then landed a penalty to make the half-time score 10-3 but it wasn't until the final 20 minutes that the contest opened up.

After aggression from the visitors' pack, Matt Bulmer (Bramhope) and Adam Waring (Ilkley) setting the example, the backs capitalised with inventive play, Harry Sagar (Ilkley) crossing the whitewash for a try that Pinder converted to make it 17-3.

With RGS chasing the game, BGS exploited the space to released George Cockcroft (Halifax) for a further try which Pinder converted from wide out.

RGS again responded, this time with a try, but BGS then kept play in the home 22, Isaac Greene (Ilkley) going over with the last play of the game to give a final score of 29-8.

BGS now face another tough away fixture against Bishop Heber High School next month.

Charles Lines, director of sport at BGS, said: "We are delighted to see the commitment of the coaches and pupils pay off in this high-quality competition.”
