West Bowling under-12s players celebrate winning the title
West Bowling under-12s marked a step into the unknown by finishing top of the table in their debut Yorkshire League campaign.
The youngsters were facing unknown opposition after switching from the West Riding League, which folded their age group at the end of the previous season.
Bowling were placed in Division Four of five in the under-12s section and were unsure how they would get on against teams they had not played before.
They were initially only looking to establish themselves in the much larger competition but surprised themselves, their coaches and parents by winning the league title.
They only let their 100 per cent record slip in the final match of the campaign, by which time the championship had long been secured.
The players celebrated their success by popping the corks on bottles of non-alcoholic champagne and were congratulated by their coaches at an end-of-season presentation ceremony.
Individual awards were won by Rowan Milnes (player of the year), Toby Wardman Cook (players’ player), captain Saul Duggan (most improved player), Kian Tighe (top try scorer) and Sam Robinson (top tackler).
