DENHOLME'S Rebekah Tiler won gold today in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa, maintaining her fantastic form of the last 18 months.

The British weightlifting champion, who was Team England's flag bearer at the opening ceremony, was dominant in the women's 69kg category, winning with a combined total of 211kg.

The victory adds to a growing list of accomplishments for the 16-year-old Bingley Grammar School pupil that includes becoming the youngest lifter to be crowned British senior champion, getting a silver medal at the World Youth Championships and record-breaking performances at last month's European Youth Championships.

Leeds-based Ashley Metcalfe, British Weight Lifting's chief executive officer, said: "After her exceptional showing at the European Youth Championships last month, we're delighted to see Rebekah continue her success with another gold medal.

"This latest achievement reiterates the progress she has made over the last year and leaves her preparation ideally placed ahead of the World Championships in November."

Tiler's gold is the fifth medal of the Games so far for British Weight Lifting's young athletes, and follows on from gold-medal success for Team Wales' Catrin Jones earlier in the week.
