GEORGE Hahn was certainly hoovering up the titles at the West Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Trials at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

The St Joseph's Primary School pupil won five under-11 boys' events – the two-lap trial, obstacle time trial, standing long jump, chest push and standing triple jump.

Maisy Chattoe (Crossflatts) was a quadruple winner. She won the one-lap time trial, over-under trial, vertical jump and high stepper in the under-11 girls’ category.

A total of 218 boys and girls from all over the county were bidding to gain selection via their all-round ability for their combined teams for the under-11 and under-13 and under-15 age groups in the Yorkshire Regional Finals in Hull on Sunday, February 8.

George wasn't the only multiple winner from the Bradford area, however, as Damian Flathers (Dixons City Academy) lifted the two-lap final, vertical jump and obstacle time trial among the under-13 boys, while under-13 girl Hollie Ellis took the two-lap B final, obstacle time trial and speed bounce.

Another triple champions was Rachel Crorken (Batley Grammar) in the under-15 girls' two-lap and four-lap time trials and speed bounce, while double winners included Ashlands' Jack Ezard (under-11 boys, Grand Prix trial and balance test) and One In A Million's Lucy Tattersfield (under-15 girls, standing long jump, vertical jump).

Sisters Lisa and Sophie Tiler, from Bingley Harriers, also triumphed, Lisa in the under-11 standing long jump and Sophie in the under-13 vertical jump.

Other victors included – Under-11 boys, Dylan Roberts (Low Ash), one-lap trial. Under-11 girls, Amelia Brown (St Mary's), one-lap hurdle trial; Amelia Garnett (Baildon Church of England), standing long jump; Orlane Vanmarcke (Sandal), balance test; Annabelle Pollard (Baildon Church of England), high stepper; Caitlin Ramage (All Saints Church of England), target throw. Under-13 boys, Harry Whatford (Bingley Harriers), four-lap; Kennan Dyer-Dixon (Hanson), standing long jump; Charlie Wild (Ilkley Grammar), speed bounce. Under-13 girls, Frances Parker (St Joseph's), standing triple jump. Under-15 boys, Thomas Jackson (St Bede's), St Bede's. Under-15 girls, Roisan Ramage (Bradford Grammar), shot put.

Records were very hard to come by but Myles Labastide (Moorland Primary, Kirklees) set a new speed bounce record with 59 in the under-11 boys, Joe Rodgers equalling the record in the soft javelin with 22 metres.

Under-11 entrants were slightly up on last year, but the numbers of under-13 and under-15 boys and girls was slightly down.

The trials were organised by Bingley Harriers and relied on the co-operation of not only the sports centre staff and Harriers members but also an army of volunteers from athletics clubs Spenborough, Bradford Airedale, Halifax Harriers and Longwood Harriers and One In A Million School.

In the regional finals, each athlete will have to compete in up to three categories, so some athletes who might have won individual events but not shown all-round ability might not be selected.

However, the selected teams look capable of progressing to the United Kingdom finals.

* There is room for more under-13s and under-15s athletes for both club and school.
