Jacob Gill is a triple under-15 boys’ county champion.

The Titus Salt School pupil won the standing long jump and standing triple jump and was in a triple tie in the speed bounce at the Under-13 and Under-15 West Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Trials at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

Gill leapt 2.60 metres in the long jump, 7.74m in the triple jump and had a speed bounce of 79, which was equalled by Eion Schofield (Shelley College) and Hassan Said (Huddersfield Trust School).

Double winners included Erin Newsome (Spenborough), Watson Peel (Brighouse High School), Matthew Crorken (Heckmondwike Grammar School) and Megan Ascough (One In A Million).

Newsome took the under-15 girls’ two-lap race in 24.8 seconds and the standing long jump with 2.38 metres, while Peel won the under-13 boys’ six-lap race in 1min 27.6sec and the obstacle time trial in 23.1sec.

Ascough triumphed in the under-13 girls’ shot with 9.41m and the obstacle time trial in 1min 22.09sec, while Crorken was at the head of the field in the under-13 boys’ four-lap race in 55.9sec and the speed bounce with 79.

Other winners included Holy Family’s Chris Johnson (under-13 boys' four-lap race, 57.9sec), Bradford Airedale’s Paris Kaur (under-15 girls' vertical jump, 54cm), St Mary’s Menston’s Lucy Tindall (under-15 girls' shot, 8.01m) and Prince Henry’s Grammar School’s Catherine Cunningham (under-13 girls' four-lap race, 1min 00.8sec).

Sandal Primary School’s Rhea Southcott won the under-13 girls’ six-lap race in 1min 36.5sec, Rachel Crorken (Batley Grammar School) triumphed in the under-13 girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.29m, and One In A Million School’s Amahl Williamson was in a triple tie for the under-13 boys’ speed bounce with 47.

Baildon Church of England Primary School’s Lois Logan, already an under-11 winner at chest push and a star in the West Yorkshire team at that level, won the under-13 girls’ standing triple jump with 6.06m, despite being only ten years old.

Despite the Yorkshire Regional finals in Hull clashing with Bradford City’s match at Wembley on Sunday, February 24, the entry of over 120 boys and girls competed from Bradford, Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax or Wakefield to gain selection for the county team.
