Denholme’s Andrew Wear became the first player to receive two under-17 cricketer of the year awards at the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association presentation night.
Yorkshire fast bowler Moin Ashraf presented Wear with the prize which the youngster claimed for the second successive season, having topped the batting and bowling averages.
Ashraf was the guest of honour at the function based at Skipton’s Rendezvous Hotel and handed out 50 awards to the season’s top performers.
James Lee (Oakworth) was the under-15 cricketer of the year after setting a new league scoring record of 339 runs.
Lewis Hopkinson (Oxenhope) built on his marvellous century (110) for the UAJCA Lord’s Taverners Xl against Leeds to win under-13 cricketer of the year.
Under-11 James Robinson (Bradley), who also represented the Taverners, proved a worthy winner in his age group, while girl cricketer of the year was Ceri Holland (Steeton).
She moved up from second place in 2010 and competed so well with the boys that she was selected for the under-13 Lord’s Taverners Xl.
All the UAJCA championship-winning teams for 2011 were present to collect their trophies – Skipton under-nines, Wharfedale under-11s, Bradley under-11s, Oxenhope under-13s, Ingrow under-13s, Wharfedale under-15s, Bradford & Bingley under-15s, Skipton under-17s and Denholme under-17s.

Joe Lumb, best batsman: Andrew Wear (Denholme); best bowler: Joe Stead (Keighley); Joe Lumb Merit Award: Lewis Wrathall (Oakworth).
Under-15s, batting: Gibreal Malik (Bradford & Bingley), never out; bowling: William Wine (Oxenhope) 3.78; fielding: Izaak Beck (Skipton) six points; wicketkeeping: Lawrence Davis (Bradford & Bingley) 14 victims; cricketer of the year: James Lee (Oakworth).
