Low Ash Primary School were crowned Drax Cup area champions after a thrilling West regional final at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club.

They won a nail-biting ‘super over’ against Beech Hill Primary from Halifax after both had scored 140-4 in the final.

Earlier in the day, Low Ash sealed a nine-run victory over another Bradford school, Farnham (175-166) in the semi-finals, while Beech Hill came through another derby with Parkinson Lane, winning 147-145.

The teams reached the last four following group-stage matches involving a total of 16 area finalists.

Low Ash become the first Bradford school to lift the area trophy and now head to the 2014 Drax Cup finals at Headingley on Wednesday, July 2, taking to the pitch prior to the match between Yorkshire and Durham in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The Drax Cup is the biggest under-nines cricket competition in the United Kingdom and is open to schools from across Yorkshire and Teesside.
