Spen Victoria’s under-11 side were singing in the changing rooms after a crucial 11-run win against Thackley sealed the South section of the Bradford Junior League – with a game in hand.

Spen have won 12 of their 15 matches, which meant nearest rivals Pudseys Congs could no longer catch them.

Coached by Derek Warriner and captained by Daniel Clough, Spen totalled 267, Iqra Hussain and Abdul Rajput both scoring 14, and there were also vital contributions from Clough and Jack Baker.

In a nail-biting reply, Thackley fell short on 256. The most successful bowler was Mariyah Hussain with two wickets.

Spen juniors began the season with eight youngsters but have finished it with 40 in three teams (under-nines, under-11s and under-13s) and have plans for an under-15 side next year.
