Two primary schools from the Bradford and Keighley area have narrowly missed reaching the semi-finals of the West Yorkshire area stage of the 2013 Drax Cup under-nines’ cricket competition at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club.

Bradford’s Farnham Primary School were beaten by Harehills (Leeds) 157-141, who went on to be crowned regional champions.

Great Horton-based Farnham secured victories in their pool matches against fellow Bradford school Westminster (131-127) and Northowram (136-122) from Halifax.

Victoria from Keighley also won two of their pool matches, against Westmoor (205-199) from Dewsbury and Whitechapel from Cleckheaton (178-169) but a 151-136 loss against Blackgates meant the Leeds school went through to the last four.

Farnham and Victoria’s were the best performances by local schools among the 15 competing teams.

Westminster also managed a win over Northowram (146-127), with St Stephen’s gaining a tie at 134-134 against Moorlands from Huddersfield, while Harden battled hard without success.

Harehills, who have twice been runners-up, now play in the Drax Cup finals at Headingley on Tuesday, July 9, prior to Yorkshire Vikings v Leicestershire Foxes in the Friends Life t20.
