Withdrawals from Steeton under-17s and under-nine teams from Bradley and Haworth means there will be an overall reduction of three teams (74 to 71) in the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association this year.

The under-17s will remain as one division but the under-13 competition reverts back to two after one year on a conference basis.

There are 17 teams entered at under-15s, 16 at under-13s, 15 at under-11s, 13 at under-17s and ten at under-nines.

The league’s Joe Lumb Competition (under-17s), under new manager Simon Howell (Oakworth), will face Doncaster, Pontefract, Heavy Woollen and Leeds.

The UAJCA have also entered three teams in the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival, with the under-15s meeting Doncaster, Nidderdale and Heavy Woollen, while Upper Wharfedale’s Brian Clarke’s debut year as under-13 manager will feature matches against Barnsley, Aire-Wharfe and Scarborough.

The under-11s, semi-finalists in 2012, will be up against Halifax, Heavy Woollen and East Yorkshire, while the under-12s and under-tens squads will also have ‘Test’ matches in a full representative calendar.

The Malsis Festival, abandoned last year due to the weather, is part of the mid-season break on June 16 and all 28 places have been filled, including new boys Sutton at under-13 level.

Silsden, meanwhile, will host the Yorkshire v Cumbria under-11 match on June 4.

The new under-17 player of the year trophy will be called the Derek Hurren Memorial Trophy in memory of the UAJCA’s immediate past secretary, who died in December.

The league’s disability cricket officer Philip Keeton has stepped down from the committee as he has succeeded the late Peter Whitehead as chairman of Bradford & Bingley Cricket Club.
