LIDGET Green Primary were the best of five Bradford area teams competing in the West area final of the Drax Cup – the biggest cricket competition for under-nines in the country – at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club.

They missed out in a closely-contested semi-final against Todmorden, which they lost by ten runs (152-142).

Lidget Green made the last four from a total of 15 teams with an unbeaten run of group matches, which included victory over Harden Primary in another tight game (148-141).

In other groups, Low Ash finished runners-up to Brockholes of Huddersfield, their match proving to be the group decider which the Shipley team, crowned West area champions last year, narrowly lost 161-155.

All Saints and Eldwick primaries completed the Bradford line-up and competed bravely without success.

An all-Huddersfield semi saw Highburton overcome Brockholes (118-131) and then go on to lift the trophy with victory against Todmorden (142-152).

More than 600 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup, and Todmorden now go forward to the finals at Headingley on Friday, July 10 prior to the Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets match in the NatWest T20 Blast.
