Wibsey Lions under-tens braved the freezing temperature to play two Huddersfield League matches at the weekend but their efforts went unrewarded.
The games were switched to opponents Dewsbury Rangers’ 3G venue in order to beat the continuing bad weather but the Wibsey A team lost 4-0 and the B team went down 1-0.
The A team game saw Dewsbury take the lead towards the end of the first half, with Lions keeper Jack Hewitt-Hill left helpless by a flicked header.
Wibsey could have equalised straight away but Ben Kerwick hesitated before shooting, allowing a defender to get in a tackle.
Owen Khan and Eli Fielding-Bell had shots blocked at the start of the second half but Dewsbury weathered the storm and pulled clear with three more goals.
The Lions B team deserved a draw out of their game but were beaten by a wonderful goal midway through the second half when a Dewsbury cross-shot flew over goalkeeper Cameron Balmforth’s head into the top corner of the net.
