Carr hits top gear as Shipley Tigers roar to victory

Shipley Tigers under-nines won 7-2 at Bingley Boca in the Keybury League in horrendous conditions.

Courbon Carr smashed the first goal in off the post before Sam Collett crossed for Harris Dobson to make it 2-0.

Sam Wilkinson’s thunderbolt made it 3-0 but Bingley started to pile on the pressure and pulled a goal back.

Wilkinson netted against the run of play and, when Jacob Green fed Carr with a defence-splitting 25-yard ball, he grabbed his second of the morning to make it 5-1.

Bocos showed good grit and determination, which was rewarded with a second goal, but Dobson scored his second before Green slotted in the final goal. Collett was named man of the match.

BPA Juniors lost 3-2 to Farsley Celtic in Craven, Aire & Wharfe League 13B on a cold and wet Sunday afternoon.

The tough conditions didn’t hold them back though, with Farsley scoring first from the penalty spot.

A defensive lapse saw the hosts stretch their lead and another failure to close down a player met with the same result, as Farsley opened up a 3-0 lead.

BPA came out a different team in the second half. Billy Raistrick breezed through the Farsley defence and took it round the keeper to make it 3-1 and a James Watmough tap-in put BPA well and truly back in the game, only for them to run out of time as they chased an equaliser.

Raistrick was named man of the match but James Frazer and Mohammed Saqib impressed throughout.

One of the few games played in the Huddersfield RCD League saw cup holders Penistone host Wibsey Lions A in the second round of the under-tens League Cup.

Despite a long journey to the other side of the county, Wibsey were unable to convert their chances and were beaten 1-0. On a tiny astro-turf pitch, the Lions struggled to play their normal counter-attacking game and Jacob McLoughlin didn’t have the space and time to use his speed to outpace defenders as he so often does.

Keeper Jack Hewitt-Hill made some good saves to deny a well-organised Penistone side, who passed the ball around well.

The deadlock was broken a few minutes before half-time, with the Penistone midfielder striking the ball in from close range.

Nathan Aylott put in a good second-half shift in front of the defence and Travis Wardman and Brad Davies remained strong and organised at the back.

Owen Khan had a few chances but put his shots wide.
