Fairbank United under-16s capped a wonderful season for the club by clinching the Craven Junior League C title with victory over Shipley Panthers in their final game.
Having been neck-and-neck with fellow pace-setters Eldwick for much of the season, Fairbank held their nerve during the run-in to secure the team’s first title success.
The under-16s also embarked on a dramatic cup run, securing victories over Silsden, Idle and Keighley Shamrocks – all from higher divisions – to reach the League Cup final, where League A champions and County Cup holders Guiseley pipped them in a fiercely fought contest.
“It has been a brilliant season for us,” reflected captain Fezan Akubat.
“I remember when the team started and we were getting beaten week in and week out. But our manager and coach (Shazad Bashir and Aswar Mahmood) never stopped believing in us and we’d like to dedicate our league title win to them.”
Fairbank under-11s also had a successful season, finishing runners-up in the Keybury League.
The Girlington-based club, formed in 1996, will be setting up under-tens and under-14s teams for the forthcoming season.
