It is every schoolboy’s dream to play for England in the World Cup – and youngster Elliott Scott is close to making it a reality.

The 11-year-old from Oxenhope has won his way through to the national finals for the Danone Cup, a global football event for budding stars aged between ten and 12.

Elliott, who attends the Bradford City school of excellence, is among 64 hopefuls attending the Crystal Palace national sports centre in London this weekend. The prize will be one of 16 coveted places in the squad to represent the country in the world event held in Paris in September.

The gifted left back has already beaten off tremendous competition to get this far. Around 5,000 youngsters from all over the country entered the eight qualifying heats.

Dad Dale said: “Elliott went to regional trial at the John Charles Centre in Leeds and got through and now he’s looking forward to the finals.

“He’s quite a confident young man and doesn’t seem too nervous but he’s already done very well and it will be good experience for him.”
