FOOTBALL-mad youngsters from Drighlington had a training session to remember when they honed their skills under the expert guidance of Leeds United legends Eddie Gray and Noel Whelan.

Drighlington under-12s and Tingley Athletic under-sevens won the 'Name Em & Fame Em' competition, organised by builders' merchant Gibbs & Dandy as part of their activities to celebrate the opening of its new Leeds branch on Elland Road.

The prize package included the training session with the former United players in East Ardsley, as well as a new kit for each team, along with a selection of training equipment.

John Burnley, from Drighlington Juniors, said: "Noel has a UEFA-B coaching licence, and Eddie is a former two-time Leeds United manager, so the training session gave our players a great insight into how professionals train and prepare for matches."

Mick Towey, branch manager of Gibbs & Dandy Leeds, added: "Congratulations to both teams for winning this prize.

"Who knows, we may even see some of these youngsters one day stepping out on the hallowed turf of Elland Road."
