Tom Hall was the star for Bradford as they clinched the Yorkshire Inter-District Union runners-up spot behind Sheffield with a 20-16 win at Harrogate.
The 19-year-old South Bradford member won both his games on debut after receiving a call-up on the morning of the match after Keighley’s Andy Fitzpatrick was forced to pull out.
He won his foursomes with fellow debutant Chris Benn and his singles 4&3 as Tim Wade’s side gained their fifth win of the season.
Hawksworth member James Flesher, aged 16, was another late call-up after Dan Hawksworth had to withdraw with a back injury.
He also won his singles as a youthful Bradford – with seven of their players under the age of 20 – demonstrated the potential for future success.
After securing second place, captain Wade said: “Cec (Bloice, vice-captain) and myself consider this to be an outstanding performance because of all the younger players who came in and stood up to be counted when the more senior players were unavailable.
“Some of the juniors who played were not in our thoughts at the end of June but they have worked hard and results have reflected this.”
