FORMER Bradford team captain Tim Wade reckons that as many as a dozen players are in with a shout of winning the Bradford Open Championship on Sunday.
The blue-riband event is being held at Bradford Golf Club and Wade said: "It is one of the best courses in the area and to win it you have to play sensibly.
"The greens can be treacherous in terms of slope and pace and the ball has to be hit into the right areas."
Jordan Clements was a surprise winner on his home course of Northcliffe last year and Wade said: "The winner could easily be a Bradford member, such as Richard Wheatley, George Grant or James Firth – but equally it could be Danny Rowley (Shipley) or a professional.
"Ten or maybe even a dozen players could win it. But although Jordan won it last year at Northcliffe, the players will be more used to playing Bradford because of the Hawksworth Trophy at the beginning of the season."
A total of 60 players have entered, including five professionals, and the morning round starts at 7.50am, with those in the afternoon starting at 12.30pm.
