LONG-standing member Stephen May has claimed Crow Nest Golf Club's biggest prize of the year – the Crow Nest Cup.

Members compete all year round to qualify for an event which is played over two days over the first weekend in September and attracted a record first-day field of 95.

Dean Wright returned a superb rainy-day nett 63 to lead by two shots overnight from Tony Ludlow-Green but most of the early pacesetters fell away on day two, despite the excellent conditions experienced by the 42 who made the cut.

The overall winner was Stephen May, who returned a six-under-par total score of 134 – a nett 68 followed by a nett 66.

It was his second major club trophy in two years after he won last October's Golden Jubilee PairsTrophy.

Runner-up was the consistent Dean Wilson, who carded an opening nett 70 and a best nett of 65 to miss out by one shot. Ryan Jones came third with the same overall nett score of 135.

Van Whitehill, a 15-handicapper, won her first club major when she walked off with the Ladies' Championship Claret Jug.

She returned a nett 76, and will be playing the last ladies' club major on Saturday – the Singles Knockout final against lady vice- captain Di Higgins.

In second place was 11-handicapper Carole Hampson with a nett 79.

The Seniors' Section September Salver winner was Dave Wilson with a fine stableford score of 38 points, four rivals totalling a point less.
