Cleckheaton trio Megan Lockett, Olivia Hamilton and Megan Clarke are representing Yorkshire next week.

They are in the white-rose team for the grand finale of the Women’s English Counties’ Championship, which runs from Monday to Friday at Wilmslow Golf Club in Cheshire.

The teams represent one of England Golf’s regions, with Yorkshire flying the flag for the North.

Their rivals are Lincolnshire (Midlands North), Warwickshire (Midlands South), Hertfordshire (East), Kent (South) and Gloucestershire (South West).

They will all play each other in a round-robin on one of the finest inland courses in the North West.

Wilmslow features wooded parkland and a meandering stream and has hosted professional tournaments and regional qualifying for The Open.

All but one of the teams have previously won this title. Yorkshire, who return to the County finals after an absence of two years, have been champions 11 times, most recently in 2008 when they won the title for the fifth year in a row.

Their players include their champion Emma Brown, who has played in three Curtis Cups and won British, English, European, South African and Scottish championships.

Warwickshire have been champions twice, although it’s 50 years since they last won; Kent have taken the title four times, most recently in 2003, while Hertfordshire scored their sole victory so far in 2010.

Their team includes girl international Alice Hewson, who is the Scottish under-16 champion and helped England win the 2013 European Young Masters’ team title.

Lincolnshire won the championship for the first time in 2011, and their team includes eight members of that winning line-up.

Among them is Helen Hewlett, a past Curtis Cup player and British champion, who also had a successful professional career and won on the LPGA Tour before returning to the amateur ranks.

Gloucestershire, so often in the thick of the action on the final day, have never won.

Their team includes former girl international Shelby Smart and Bethan Popel, who is the South West women’s champion and the under-18 English strokeplay winner.

Two familiar faces will be missing from their line up this year as Hannah Barwood and Jo Hodge are both turning professional.

The Yorkshire team is: Carole Waights (captain), Charlotte Austwick, Kirsty Beckwith, Emma Brown, Nicola Buxton, Megan Clarke, Ellie Goodall, Olivia Hamilton, Megan Lockett, Holly Morgan, Rochelle Morris and Rebecca Wood.

Yorkshire play Kent on Monday, Warwickshire on Tuesday, Gloucestershre on Wednesday, Hertfordshire on Thursday and Lincolnshire on Friday.

Teams play three foursomes in the morning and six singles in the afternoon. Foursomes commence at 8.30am and singles at 12.30pm.
