Cameron with more to prove in cup

Bradford Park Avenue have a chance to bring some more silverware to the club tonight when they travel to Retford United with the UniBond League Chairman's Cup at stake.

Avenue were crowned UniBond Division One North champions last weekend after being confirmed as title winners days before.

Tonight's game pits Avenue against the club who won the Division One South Division.

The Nottingham club gets home advantage because they had a better record over the season. Retford amassed 99 points in winning the southern section while Avenue's total was just 82.

However, Avenue will be in better spirits, Retford having been denied promotion to the Premier Division due to ground grading.

"This is a cup final I want us to win for two reasons - to prove we are worthy champions and that our division was harder to win," said Bradford boss Dave Cameron.

Avenue have another showpiece game on Saturday when they take on the Premier Division champions Fleetwood Town for the Peter Swailes Memorial Shield.

Cameron added: "We are still training hard. There is no let up just yet because our season isn't over until Saturday evening.

"I was very disappointed that we didn't win our final league game at Rossendale United at the weekend. The lads did what they could but the UniBond League making the presentation before the game made it a huge anti-climax.

"We weren't happy about that and I'm sure it affected the result. That is another reason why we should go into this game looking to beat Retford. I'm sure their players are not happy about not going up and that could seriously affect them for next season."
