Avenue on brink of glory

| Steve Connors' sixth-minute header set Avenue on their way to victory |
Park Avenue 2 Ossett Albion 0
Bradford Park Avenue bounced back from a shock defeat at the weekend to move four points clear at the top of the UniBond Division One table tonight with a win over fifth-placed Ossett Albion.
Albion will now need to win on Thursday and Saturday to guarantee they make the play-offs.
In contrast, Avenue could be crowned champions on Wednesday night without kicking a ball.
If FC United of Manchester fail to win at home against Woodley Sports and Curzon Ashton do not return from Newcastle Blue Star with a maximum then the Bradford side will claim the title and the one automatic promotion place that goes with it.
That exciting prospect was set up by tonight's win when Avenue eased past a very determined Albion side.
A goal in the sixth minute set them on the way but the result was always in question until Avenue netted a second in the last minute.
When Mark Bett was brought down in the sixth minute close to the touchline, Tom Baker curled the free-kick into the area. Avenue skipper Steve Connors, who made an unexpected comeback, rose highest to head Avenue in front.
Albion put up a good fight and that made it a tense evening at Horsfall Stadium.
The collective sigh of relief from the home supporters came in the 90th minute when Baker seized possession, fed Ross Clegg, whose inch-perfect chip picked out Danny Warner and he controlled well before slotting home.

Yes i agree a good atmosphere last night and a great result a good cross from clegg and good finish from Warner to wrap up the points not the best football iv,e ever seen but its all about getting the result and anouther 3 points, Ill also be down at V,P on saturday cheering city on but will have my fingers crossed that avenue get the 3 points they need to get out of this division,They cant afford anouther season in this division after all the hard work Bob has put in, there,s a buz about the place now that was not there at the beginning of the season and if promoted there is no reason why it cant continue.
