Boss Dave Cameron believes the non-league way of recognising good form is fairer than the league one.

Monthly awards are given to clubs rather than managers and the Avenue chief feels this is a better way of recognising success.

Following confirmation that Avenue had won the club of the month award for March, he said: "I totally agree with a club of the month award because it reflects on the whole thing - the players, the coaching staff and everyone in the background. The people who man the turnstiles, work behind the bars and sell the pies - it is for all of them.

"What I don't agree with is a manager of the month - the manager doesn't play! He can only do so much, like the coaches, working on tactics, making substitutions, geeing the lads up.

"Once the lads go out over the white line it's down to them and that's where the points are won.

"The team is more important than the manager and it has been a big effort by the players and the backroom staff.

"If I had scored more goals than anyone else and was in line for an award I would stand up and claim it in a heartbeat. But I'm on the other side of the line now."

Avenue - who also won the award in November under previous boss Benny Phillips - are expecting their plaque and champagne to be presented to them by a representative from the UniBond League before Monday night's fixture against promotion rivals FC United of Manchester.

Cameron added: "I didn't know we had won the award until one of the journalists told me last Wednesday because the playing staff and us on the coaching side are concentrating so much on the next game."

"It is a very good thing for the club and I hope the chief executive or the chairman enjoys picking it up on behalf of us all. I will be in the dressing room doing a pre-match team talk and reminding the lads that there is a lot still left to do."

Cameron still has a 100 percent record after joining the club from Welsh Premier League side Rhyl at the beginning of March. They have won eight on the trot since then which put them joint top of UniBond Division One North.
