Bradford Park Avenue's friendly against Leeds United is scrubbed

Bradford Park Avenue’s pre-season friendly against a Leeds United XI, scheduled for Wednesday, August 8, has been called off.

Avenue should have hosted a side managed by their former midfielder Neil Redfearn on the night after Bradford City – another of Redfearn’s former clubs – had visited Horsfall.

Avenue press spokesman Lewis Sale said: “We got an e-mail from Elland Road telling us it had been cancelled but they didn’t give a reason.

“It is a disappointment but these things happen with friendly games. It was never the best timing just the day after the City game but we definitely wanted the fixture to go ahead.”

Redfearn has enhanced his reputation since joining the Elland Road club as youth team coach, and was elevated to caretaker boss by Ken Bates following the sacking of Simon Grayson in the second half of last season.
