A night off for Park Avenue and Guiseley

Two of tonight’s scheduled fixtures were postponed yesterday afternoon as the severe weather continues to hit other parts of the country.

Guiseley’s high profile FA Trophy third-round tie at Cambridge United was one of the first games to be called off.

Originally scheduled for last Saturday, it was rearranged for tonight but has fallen victim to the weather for a second time in four days.

Manager Steve Kittrick said: “We are very disappointed that it’s off again but sometimes you can’t beat the weather.

“It won’t affect the squad – they will work hard and they are aware that they just have to roll with it.

“The focus has already switched to Saturday and the Solihull Moors game at home in the league – if it’s on!”

Guiseley and Cambridge now know they are playing for home advantage against either Dartford or Weald-stone – whose rearranged game for tonight has also fallen victim to the weather – in the quarter-finals later this month.

The last eight are due to play the quarter-finals on February 25.

The cold snap is so severe in places that the Evo-Stik League took the unusual step of calling off all of their Doodson Sports Cup quarter-finals scheduled for this week.

That means Bradford Park Avenue will not be travelling to North Ferriby United this evening for their tie.

The Evo-Stik League cited the “arctic weather” as the reason for their early action when they announced the decision on their website yesterday.

Avenue will now make the journey a week tomorrow.

There is, however, still a chance of some football involving the local semi-pro clubs tonight as two fixtures have not yet fallen by the wayside.

Liversedge are due to host Barton Town Old Boys in the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division while divisional rivals Brighouse Town have a League Cup third-round tie at Division One outfit AFC Emley.
