BRADFORD Park Avenue have managed to get one signing over the line ahead of their Vanarama National League North trip to Nuneaton Town tomorrow, but the Horsfall Stadium club are having to play a waiting game for their other target.

Bidding to plug the hole caused by Wayne Brooksby’s hamstring injury, which could well keep him out for another fortnight, eighth-placed Avenue have signed 21-year-old French national Antoine Remi Recizac.

The Leeds Trinity University student, who has previously played for Widnes in the North West Counties League and for Stockport County’s reserve team, has been training with Avenue for three weeks now.

Manager Mark Bower said: “Antoine, who is a wide man and can play across the front line, has looked good in training and deserves the chance to see if he can step up and show us what he can do in a league match.”

As for their other target, Bower said: “We are having to be patient as we are subject to a domino effect from higher up.

“We also tried to sign someone last week who has gone to a lower level than us but they can offer him full-time football, so it can be difficult. Our players’ fund just keeps on growing, and is now over £11,000, but I am not going to spend any of it unless I can bring in someone who can improve the squad.”

Buoyed by an indoor training session, which included an internal five-side competition, at 3Gi in Halifax last Saturday as their match against Gainsborough Trinity was postponed, Avenue expect a tough test at 18th-placed Nuneaton tomorrow.

Bower said: “They are a full-time team who have had some really good results recently, such as beating Harrogate Town at home.”

Nuneaton have also won at Gainsborough since the turn of the year, and Bower added: “I cannot see it being a long-ball game, but it is like any game in this division – if you don’t prepare well you will get beaten.”

Avenue’s match against Gainsborough has been re-arranged for Monday, February 5.
