BRADFORD Park Avenue boss Mark Bower has been inventive with the way he has 'sold' the club to potential new recruits and existing players.

Last season's captain Ryan Toulson has signed a new deal but will be mainly on the coaching staff, while recent capture Steve Drench is doubling up as the club's academy goalkeeping coach.

Former Halifax and Guiseley full back Toulson will be more involved with Bower and assistant manager Danny Boshell and the Avenue manager is delighted to welcome him onto the staff.

Bower said: "I've known Tully for many years now and I know what he offers as a player but also what he can offer us on a match day if he's not in the side.

"At times last season, we were lacking that third man in the dugout. Three lots of input and differing views can help and I thought that we needed that extra body – another voice as we bounce off each other.

"At Guiseley, we were very lucky because we had Martin Stringfellow. He was the physio but he's also a highly-qualified coach.

"When I was in the dugout and Bosh was playing, or even when both of us were there, we always had Martin to add his take on tactics and substitutions.

"Tully has played in the top two divisions of non-League football for over ten years, so his experience is vast. I also know about his character, how he thinks and his instinct for making a difference in a game.

"It's the same with Drenchy, in that I know his character, and they both have the right attitude in terms of football and development of players. They will cover both bases as players and coaches at the club."

Bower has recruited wisely and he knows that the club is not awash with cash. Yet he is happy with the backing and with the mindset and outlook of the men in the backroom staff that he has assembled.

"Tully is covering both bases because he will be needed at times as a player and Drenchy will be the main keeper but also an excellent coach for the academy," said Bower.

"They are doing two jobs without weakening the squad in the slightest. We've got excellent quality in the squad but in order to compete in this division, we've had to be a bit creative; a bit clever.

"When you're up against clubs with much bigger budgets than us and full-time players, you have to make Bradford an attractive proposition to get some of the best players in the league."
