BRADFORD Park Avenue’s testing run-in ends on Saturday with a trip to second-placed Kidderminster Harriers, but Mark Bower insists his side will not go out with a whimper as they sign off for the summer.

Avenue guaranteed their Vanarama National North status over Easter but the tough games have kept on coming.

Home matches against promotion-chasing Tamworth and Stockport County were interspersed with games at leaders AFC Fylde and today’s trip to Kidderminster in a gruelling last month of the campaign.

Avenue were effectively safe after taking four points from their first two games of April - a 1-0 win at relegation rivals Alfreton Town and a goalless home draw against latter-day rivals FC United of Manchester, but they were mathematically safe after a 1-1 draw at champions-elect Fylde.

Bower said: “It is a tough end to our season but we always knew that we’d be finishing against some of the top sides.

“I’m glad we’re not going there needing anything to stay up because I think Kidderminster are the best team in league.

"They’re certainly the best team that I’ve seen this season, with their pace, ability and all-round play.

“But we will go there with a positive attitude and, with the pressure off, our lads will be looking forward to playing on that decent surface at Aggborough.

"We don’t want to go out with a whimper, and I think the way we played against Stockport last week proved that.”

The Harriers know that they will have home advantage in the play-offs, but John Eustace’s side could yet be knocked out of runners-up spot.

A defeat or even a draw could see third-placed FC Halifax Town leapfrog them if the Shaymen win at sixth-placed Chorley.

Kidderminster are only two point better off than Halifax, with a worse goal difference, after a draw against Gainsborough Trinity last time out.

Avenue failed to fill the substitutes' bench in their last game, due to injuries and illness, but there should be more bodies available this weekend.

Bower said: “We might have a couple back, so we should have options for this last game of the season.

“Oli Johnson should be okay and Shane Killock will be fine. 'Killer' missed the Stockport game through illness - it was a bout of flu and he’d been up all night the day before the game.

“The lads played well against a very good Stockport side, and there’s a different kind off pressure on the team now. They are playing to impress and pressing to earn new deals for next year.

“They have the freedom to play and I’d expect nothing other than 100 per cent from them.”
