BRADFORD boss Mark Bower brought two players in before last weekend’s game and two went out on loan, but he is hoping to do more business over the next few weeks.

Bower was expecting the opening of the transfer window to lead to player movement, even for clubs in the National League. He and his scouts are still scouring the market and have identified targets.

He said: “We got Aidan (Chippendale) and then we got the loan deal for Reece (Webb-Foster) sorted out a bit last minute.

“Reece is a good finisher and has a good record, as the supporters will know after he had a spell here on loan last season. We’ve not scored too many goals this season and we’re hoping that Reece can have a big impact for us.

“He’s got decent qualities and a very good pedigree, coming to us from Bradford City, and we hope to help with his development. It’s a good move for us and we hope it will also be good for Reece and Bradford City.

“We want to assist a good young player at the start of his career and if us giving him valuable game time means that Bradford City get a match fit player with more experience back then we’re all happy.”

The Avenue boss, who spent the major part of his own playing career with the Bantams, feels that last Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at Harrogate Town highlights the need for him to fine tune his squad.

Despite having beaten their opponents on their 3G pitch just days earlier in the West Riding County Cup, they knew they would be up against it.

When the hosts went down to ten men on the stroke of half-time, and later to nine, Avenue had the chance to pick up much-needed points.

It turned out to be yet another missed opportunity though as Avenue struggled and Harrogate held on to bank all three points.

Bower said: “All season we’ve struggled to break teams down and when we did last week we couldn’t take advantage. We even missed a penalty.

"We were poor in the first half but given the circumstances I feel we should have got something from the game.

“We looked short of ideas when we had a lot of the ball towards the end of the game because we lacked creativity. Maybe Reece can be the player that can give us that something extra, that little spark up front.”
