Worcester City 0 Bradford Park Avenue 1

BRADFORD Park Avenue moved a step closer to safety in National League North after a dramatic late victory at Worcester.

Mark Bower's side had been held at bay for well over 90 minutes before Nicky Boshell snatched the winning goal.

Boshell fired the ball past home goalkeeper Ethan Ross six minutes into injury time and was then shown a yellow card for his celebrations.

Yet Bower, who felt that anything but a win would have been harsh on his side, will surely forgive the indiscretion.

The Blue and Whites, who play their home games at Bromsgrove Sporting's Victoria ground, remain three places above the drop zone in 17th but only goal difference now divides third-bottom Avenue from the safety zone.

Just two points separate Avenue, Worcester and Telford United following the weekend's results and they are now level with Gainsborough Trinity, who drew 1-1 at Telford.

It was an important weekend for all the clubs battling to beat the drop and Avenue were the big 'movers' after their last-gasp victory.

It was also a fully deserved win – despite the home side feeling they had done enough not to lose.

Avenue were on the front foot from the start and, just minutes in, Luke Dean failed to get a touch on a ball from Boshell across the face of goal.

On-loan forward Wayne Brooksby set up Nicky Wroe but his effort was easily saved by Ross.

The first half was all about Avenue, who produced far more chances than their hosts.

A Dean shot just before the half-hour mark was deflected for the game's first corner, before the visitors suffered a double blow.

Full back Matty Hill picked up an injury and was replaced by Adam Nowakowski, while Brooksby needed treatment and a replacement shirt after a nasty cut.

Avenue forced more set-pieces before the interval and centre back Shane Killock headed wide from two of them, while Worcester's veteran striker Lee Hughes had a header saved by Jon Worsnop.

Killock threatened again in the second half before a Hughes header was palmed onto the post by Worsnop.

That effort sparked a good spell for the home side but Avenue regrouped and pushed for the late winner, which sparked joyous scenes among the travelling supporters.
