BRADFORD Park Avenue boss Mark Bower is still shaping his squad and there were two more departures this week – but the manager does not expect to be making any signings before today's home game against Alfreton.

Both Jack Ryan and Joe Kearns departed in the days after last weekend's 3-2 victory at FC United of Manchester.

Striker Ryan was released from his contract to allow him to join Workington on a permanent basis, while defender Kearns returned to Southport at the end of his loan.

Bower insisted he would give all of players in the squad he inherited the chance to stake a claim. Having done that, he is now working to streamline and improve those at his disposal.

The former Guiseley manager said: "We have had some good results recently and the lads should be full of confidence after last week.

"We also have Emile Sinclair and Adam Nowakowski back, so we will have a couple of decisions to make regarding the starting line-up.

"We are a work in progress and we have won two of our last three games but we didn't back up our win at Altrincham. We had a poor game against Stalybridge but then had a great result at FC United.

"I think the current squad has a lot more to give and I expect that from them – but there will be a couple of new lads coming in, when the players we want become available."

Bower has expressed his thoughts on the lack of player movement. He feels the decision to end the emergency loan option for clubs in the lower divisions of the Football League has restricted activity in the transfer market, not only at that level but also below.

He explained: "When we took over there were 23 outfield players at the first training session. We had open minds and decided to give all of those players every chance.

"After looking at them all in training and in a match situation, we had an idea about where we needed to strengthen. Some of the players were only here on loan deals, so there were decisions to be made.

"Some of those players have left or are on loan at other clubs now and a few more have come in, so we have a nucleus of the squad we feel will be strong enough. But we do need to add."
