BRADFORD Park Avenue host Nuneaton Town tomorrow still unbeaten in the new Vanarama National North season but also looking for their first win of the campaign.

A second draw in midweek left Alex Meechan's men with two points from a possible six but they remain upbeat after pulling off yet another stoppage-time equaliser.

Goals from Liam Dickinson, in the opener at Gainsborough Trinity, and Sanchez Payne against Curzon Ashton in midweek lifted spirits in the Avenue ranks.

There is a similarity about this weekend's game as Nuneaton provided the opposition for Avenue's third game of last season. Almost exactly 12 months ago, Bradford were beaten 1-0 but that was away from home.

Meechan will be hoping the similarity ends there because last term, after back-to-back draws, Nuneaton inflicted Avenue's first defeat.

The Boro, as they are known since Nuneaton Borough went into administration and reformed as Town, took six points off Avenue last season.

The return clash at Horsfall Stadium was scheduled for January but was postponed and then, three months later, it was off again.

Both fixtures were washed out but when it was finally played, Boro were 3-2 victors. Chib Chilaka bagged a brace in that game but he has since departed.

Kevin Wilson's side have only played one league game this term and will be looking to bounce back from that.

Boro lost 3-2 at home to FC Halifax Town on the opening day. Aaron Williams and Kelvin Longmead were on target for Nuneaton but a Tom Denton hat-trick won it for the Shaymen.

Meechan has been around the game, in the professional ranks as well as the higher end of non-League, for all his adult life and knows that the first few games can be almost impossible to predict.

Going into the new campaign, the Avenue boss said: "It's an exciting time but also a difficult one because all of the players, coaching staff and supporters at every club are determined to get off to a great start.

"The first few are always tough and they can go either way. I remember when I was at Dagenham & Redbridge and we were one of the favourites to win it (Conference League) but we got beaten by Leigh RMI.

"Another season I was with Forest Green Rovers and we beat Cheltenham Town, the local rivals who were expected to go on and get promoted.

"That's the way it is in the early season, with everyone wanting to get the three points that the faithful are praying for."
