BRADFORD Park Avenue boss Alex Meechan was pleased that his squad got through the close season relatively unscathed, and he hopes they continue to get the rub of the green injury wise.

Meechan said: "There have been a couple of niggles but you’re always going to get that at this stage.

"The players are coming back from a few weeks off and there are going to be pulls and strains as they get back into it.

“These days they look after themselves during the close season and they all have healthy lifestyles, so that helps to restrict the injuries.

"We’ve been quite fortunate this time, and it’s something we’ll need along the way.

“We haven’t got a big squad – certainly not compared to some of the other clubs in our division – so we need our players to be fit and injury free.

"We’ve got options to draft the odd one in, and we’re hoping to use the loan window, so I’m sure we’ll be all right.”

Meechan’s appointment was only confirmed just before the club’s first friendly, but the head coach doesn’t think that has had a detrimental effect.

He also feels that the new-look squad have settled in well.

“I came in a bit late, which wasn’t ideal, but the players have been great,” said Meechan.

“It’s been tough mentally as well as physically, but it always is in pre-season.

"The players have enjoyed it though and they are ready for the big test now. They are really keen to get going.

“The lads have been fantastic in their attitude and approach.

"They are full of desire, hunger and commitment, so we couldn’t ask for any more.

"They are an ambitious group but then we’re all very ambitious at this club.”
