Bradford Park Avenue 2 Nuneaton Town 3
A SECOND-HALF brace from Chib Chilaka was just not enough for Avenue as Nuneaton Town earned a narrow victory that took them to within a point of the play-offs in the National League.
The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the first half when a cross was turned in, Vamara Sanogo being credited with the goal.
There was no question about the scorer of Boro’s second as veteran striker Marlon Harewood rifled in a shot on the half hour mark.
Bradford had been poor in the first half and started the second period still off the pace, but a Chilaka header from close range halved the deficit.
However, the visitors added a third when substitute Joe Ironside, who had replaced Sanogo, planted a firm header into the top corner.
Bradford, and Chilaka, were not done and the striker stabbed home his 16th goal of the season three minutes from time to ensure a tense finale.
Liversedge will aim to pull further clear of the relegation zone in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division tonight when they host mid-table Clipstone.
A 4-0 home win on Tuesday lifted Sedge two places above the trapdoor but their cushion is only two points.
Another maximum, against a Clipstone side playing their final game of the campaign, could secure their status with two games to spare.
Thackley are also in action as they host Bridlington Town in a League Cup quarter-final tie. The winners will have home advantage against Cleethorpes Town in the last four.
