Bradford Park Avenue 1 Corby Town 0

BRADFORD boosted their hopes of survival in the Vanarama National North by banking a huge three-point maximum against basement boys Corby Town in a tense game at Horsfall Stadium last night.

Avenue were the better side throughout, but the longer the game against the Steelmen remained goalless the more nervy it got.

It was two substitutes who combined to eventually break the deadlock in the 78th minute.

Bantams’ loanee Dylan Mottley-Henry netted to convert a good cross from former Leeds United and Chelsea youth Ben Gordon.

Mottley-Henry had replaced Craig King just nine minutes earlier, while Gordon was introduced by Avenue boss Darren Edmondson just ten minutes into the second half, Callum Chippendale making way.

Bradford’s leading scorer Chib Chilaka had been denied soon after the break when he headed a King cross against the bar and the home side had the ball in the net for a second time late on. But Reece Webb-Foster – another young player on loan from Bradford City – netted after Liam Dickinson had strayed offside.

Elsewhere, Eccleshill United came back from a goal down at home to play-off chasing Penistone Church to earn a 1-1 draw in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One. Adam Turner netted the Eagles’ equaliser.

Tonight’s action sees Liversedge at home in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division as they look for the victory that would lift them out of the relegation zone.

It will be a difficult task as they host fifth-placed Worksop Town, who can still win the title and gain promotion to the Evo-Stik League.

Thackley are also at home as they host Glasshoughton Welfare in a rearranged League Cup fourth round tie.
