NEW Bradford Park Avenue boss Darren Edmondson was frustrated by back-to-back defeats but remains happy with the effort and application of his players.

Last Saturday's loss at leaders Solihull Moors was followed by another on the road as Avenue went down 3-1 at Worcester City, which proved a bigger setback as it allowed Worcester to climb above the Bradford side in the National North table.

Edmondson has only had four games in charge and one of those was abandoned after 34 minutes, so he has had little time to settle in.

With today's trip to promotion-chasing Boston United and two midweek games to follow, he has had to think on his feet as he looks to secure Avenue's place in the division.

"The Boston game will be difficult – but there is never an easy game when you're in the situation we are, as Tuesday proved," he said.

"It is difficult to access so many things in such a short space of time and we're asking the lads to do things that are maybe a little different to what they've been used to.

"But I've been pleased by their commitment, attitude and willingness to learn. I've also seen some very good football and there are some good players at this club."

Edmondson was without first-choice keeper Jon Stewart at Worcester on Tuesday and he rates the stopper only 50/50 for today's game. Adam Mather and Jake Scott are also struggling to be fit and the manager wants all his squad to be available for the hectic run-in.

The Horsfall boss said: "This week is a big one for us with four games in eight days, which is far from ideal. Too much water came down from November to January for any of the pitches to deal with, so nearly all the clubs are having to play a lot of games.

"I've felt sorry for the players, especially on Tuesday. There were three goals for Worcester that they didn't deserve or earn. I felt flat for the players because 3-1 just didn't reflect the game.

"Again at Solihull it was frustrating because they are at the top of the league but we played better than them. Solihull will say that they ground out a win and that's what wins titles.

"I'd have to agree with them because that is what winning teams do. They get results even when they're not at their best and they build up points.

"The lads responded well at Worcester and were excellent in the way they created so many chances but for no reward."
